Teammate Spotlight: Meet Kyle McVicker
Meet Kyle McVicker, Account Director and Studio Leader. With ten-plus years of experience in operations, project, and program management, Kyle will oversee projects from start to finish, manage the complex aspects of a build-out, and deliver tangible, innovative results.
Q: What inspired you to get into architecture/design/engineering/the work that you do?
I have always loved to multitask, discover new challenging projects to pursue, and witness the longevity of the work that I do. As a project manager in the architecture/design world, the ability to work with a variety of clients and collaborate with multiple fields to continually tackle new project types and designs has always kept me motivated and passionate within the industry. At the same time seeing the project come to fruition – from design development meetings to drawings to a completed physical space – is the most rewarding part of what I do.
Q: Are you an early riser or a night owl?
I am definitely an early riser! I like to have a head start to the day, begin refreshed and productive, and get organized for the tasks ahead. Especially during busy weekdays, setting aside time early in the morning to center myself, while also beginning prepared and energized for the team is essential for me. Having a hot Americano alongside it all makes it all the more enjoyable.
Q: What is a quote or mantra you live by?
“How can I leave my mark on the world, I thought, unless I get out there first and see it?”
I recently finished “Shoe Dog” by Phil Knight and came across this quote. This really resonated with me and has pushed me to prioritize experiences and traveling over the past few months and moving forward.
Q: When people come over, what’s the one piece of art or furniture that’s an immediate conversation piece?
My bar cart! I am a big whiskey fan and have been collecting different whiskeys over the years. I have a large variety of different bourbons and rye to choose from. Having friends and family try different whiskeys and reminiscing over the story behind each bottle is a great way to start conversation and makes everyone feel at home.
“As someone constantly seeking new ways to challenge myself and learn within the industry, I am excited to contribute to NELSON’s mission to build long-term client relationships and deliver industry-changing projects.”

Hospitality Love
As designers, we find inspiration all around us. Whether it’s a culinary experience in a new country, a hotel stay in a new city, or even within our own homes, we are constantly discovering ways to evolve and innovate to come up with fresh, intentional, and emotive designs for our clients. To express our love for hospitality and the projects we create, we asked a handful of our colleagues from the hospitality practice to share the words and images that bring them inspiration.
