Part of the Technical College System of Georgia, West Georgia Technical College’s Carroll Campus required a major upgrade. The original 1960s-era facilities were outdated, with limited windows, vertical layouts, and infrastructure that no longer met student or program needs. Seeking a modern, technology-forward environment, the college partnered with NELSON Worldwide to design a new campus—leading efforts in master planning, architecture, interiors, environmental graphics, and FF&E.
The new campus, just under a mile from the original site, sits on a 30-acre parcel provided by the Carroll County Development Authority. It expanded the college’s space from 100,000 to nearly 150,000 square feet and added a commercial truck driving range and testing facility. The three-story main building now houses student services, classrooms, labs, faculty offices, and spaces supporting a wide range of academic programs—from nursing to criminal justice.
A second building focuses on industrial and technical trades like carpentry, welding, and diesel technology, with direct outdoor access for hands-on work. A pedestrian bridge over wetlands connects the two buildings, enhancing accessibility and campus cohesion. Outdoor dining and gathering areas help create a welcoming, university-like atmosphere.
Branding and environmental graphics play a strong role, with yellow as the primary brand color and custom signage and wall treatments highlighting pride in technical professions. The project received strong community and legislative support and is seen as a driver for local workforce development—aiming to retain graduates and attract industry partners to the area.
