NELSON Worldwide served as architect for the comprehensive $223.5 million renovation of the historically landmarked New Jersey Executive State House. Built in 1792, the State House is the third oldest in continuous legislative use in the United States and remains the most historic public building in New Jersey, serving as the home of the Senate, General Assembly, Governor, and several state departments.

The project addressed decades of deferred maintenance while honoring the building’s cultural and architectural significance. Work included replacement of aging electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, along with restoration of its stone foundations, stucco façade, roof, gold leaf–clad dome and cupola, rotunda, and historic windows. The interiors were fully renovated with modern office fit-outs to support various state departments, integrating energy-efficient systems, enhanced safety and security measures, and improved accessibility.

Through this restoration, the State of New Jersey preserved a vital piece of its heritage while creating a more functional, sustainable, and secure environment for the next generation of civic leadership.
