Since opening its doors in 1959, Jeff Davis Hospital has remained committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and compassionate care to its rural Georgia community. In 2004, the hospital earned designation as a Critical Access Hospital, reinforcing its essential role in providing accessible healthcare services in an underserved area.
NELSON was engaged to lead a comprehensive master planning study in conjunction with the design of a 10-bed inpatient adult psychiatric unit—marking a critical first step in expanding the hospital’s behavioral health services. The initial expansion not only addressed an urgent regional need for accessible mental health care but also laid the groundwork for two future 10-bed psychiatric units, enabling the hospital to scale its offerings thoughtfully and strategically.
In addition to the psychiatric expansion, the master plan included targeted renovations within the existing facility, aimed at improving patient and staff experiences. These upgrades were designed to reflect the professionalism and dedication of the hospital’s staff, helping to build community trust and pride in the care provided.
This project catalyzed a physical and cultural transformation, supporting Jeff Davis Hospital’s mission while positioning it for long-term growth and continued excellence in rural healthcare delivery.
