Correctional News: GDC Marks Milestone with Ribbon Cutting for Modular Medical Facility

On July 21, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the new 4,800 SF Medical Intensive Infirmary (MII) at Johnson State Prison. Serving as Architect of Record, NELSON designed the facility to address critical medical needs for incarcerated individuals requiring higher levels of care, while establishing a safer, more controlled environment for clinical staff and correctional officers.
NELSON Civic & Justice Project Manager Yulia Elizarova joined GDC leaders for the ceremony, marking a major milestone in modernizing Georgia’s correctional infrastructure through accelerated modular delivery.
