We were challenged to replace a former prison in Columbia, South Carolina, and convert it into a mental health treatment center for people incarcerated. The goal was to create a safe and supportive environment for patients.
This project is designed to be privately operated by Wellpath, delivering medical and behavioral healthcare services for patients in inpatient treatment facilities, as well as local, state, and federal correctional facilities. The 16,000 square-foot, 260-bed facility features new administration buildings and space for programming, vocational, and healthcare support. With design solutions centered on the patient, the center offers staff and healthcare providers a healing environment that supports the best treatment possible.
