After we designed Philadelphia’s first casino, Rivers Casino, formerly called SugarHouse, we were further commissioned to expand our involvement from the original master planning and inception, through an ambitious $164 million expansion.
As part of Pennsylvania’s new gaming initiative, this waterfront development takes advantage of the proximity to nearby Center City Philadelphia, as well as the I-95 corridor. Offering spectacular views of both the city and the Delaware River, the casino is contemporary in design and provides public gathering spaces and a waterfront promenade. The design recognizes the important pedestrian and vehicular approaches, buffering the traffic lanes with water features and lush landscaping at a grand front entrance. The success of more than four million visitors per year led to its expansion.
The expansion adds 152,000 square feet of gaming, entertainment, and dining venues to the facility, and continues the master plan north along the Delaware River with an extended public waterfront promenade and seven-story parking garage.
