Santa Cruz Juvenile Hall Renovation & Expansion
Enhancing safety, accessibility, and youth programming
CGL’s AOR Justice team, (now NELSON Worldwide), provided architectural services for renovating and upgrading the Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall Detention Facility. Working closely with the County departments and stakeholders, CGL completed the project’s schematic design, design development, and final construction documents. The Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall Detention Facility is nearly 50 years old and houses juvenile court, detention, and rehabilitation programs.
The existing space was inadequate to provide expanded youth programming and to meet current security needs and codes. The goal of the renovation and upgrades project was to allow a higher degree of accessibility, structural building stability, safety, and security for the minors, staff, and public. The project also allowed greater access to improved programming, such as culinary arts, master gardening, healthy food production, family reunification, and business management to inspire self-confidence, leadership, personal development, self-motivation, and job readiness skills.
