Delaware Custom House

Delaware Custom House

In 2015, Tevebaugh Architecture and CGL’s AOR Justice team (now NELSON Worldwide) conducted a feasibility study for the New Castle County Courthouse, now named the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center. The study recommended acquiring the adjacent former US Custom House, a National Register historic structure. Since then, the State acquired the Custom House, and the design team updated the space program, surveyed the site, digitally scanned the historic building, and prepared comprehensive schematic designs for new additions. The updated space program includes user groups like Supreme Court Chambers and Community Court, all housed within the historic structure and new additions. The design aims to revitalize the Custom House, preserve historic facades, and connect different functions through public circulation.
