New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission Secure Facilities

New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission Secure Facilities

NELSON Worldwide (formerly CGL), has developed a groundbreaking prototype facility that prioritizes the safety of both staff and youth while promoting therapeutic services in a normative and developmentally appropriate environment. The five-phase process involved visioning sessions, user interviews, commission program development, conceptual building designs, and cost estimates. The outcome is a world-class youth facility that signifies a shift from punitive confinement to treatment and rehabilitation, symbolizing the juvenile justice reform movement. These small, youth-focused, residential-like facilities offer diverse programs and essential social services for effective rehabilitation. The design ensures a secure setting for a small group of youth requiring higher supervision, emphasizing safety, residential qualities, therapeutic approaches, and trauma-informed environments for healing and restoration.
